MajorStudio: Final
I found that there is a huge gap between psychologists and ordinary dreamers. If a dreamer was looking for a simple response/answer, mostly for the comfort, he will find it really frustrated that the information is either too complex to contemplate, for example, those books of dream interpretation in the library, or too simple/inconvincible to apply to his dream, like the funny tutorial video clips on Youtube. Worst of all, either searching for one side of information or another, the process is time-consuming and exhausting since there is simply too much information too filter. Why can’t the process of search answers as simple as what we will do when we want a coke or our daily groceries? Why can’t it be convenient and friendly? Another problem is that, despite all the researches show that dreams are pictorial; none of the accessible interpretation is graphic-based. Maybe that’s why those silly video clips on Youtube are popular: other forms of helping are so text-heavy and not friendly.
I decided to design a vending machine that can be easily accessed and able to give the user some simple indications and comfort. At the first place I want it to be physical, but considering the accessibility, eventually it became an internet-based installation. The contents of the buttons are based on the findings of my reading; each one represents one universal/commonly seen factor in the study of nightmare. The questions are constructed in a linear structure which can help the user to construct their own narratives. At the same time, each button triggers different functionality and calculation of the system and the thus the result will be based on the input of the user and being different and customized every time. Also because based on my reading, almost all the dreams are pictorial, I decided to make the system very iconic and graphical, in which I believe is more helpful than a text-based one.
